The Fitbit Charge 5, which launched simply a few months ago, is a same palatial fitness tracker, simply its predecessor, the Charge 4, might be ameliorate suited to your needs – especially if you'Ra happening a mingy budget.

The Send serial publication has always been physical exertion-focused, and the Fitbit Institutionalise 4 was a real gamy-record changer when it arrived in 2020 thanks to its on-board GPS, which allowed wearers to track runs, walks and bike rides without carrying their phone.

It wasn't the firstly Fitbit with a GPS chip (the Fitbit Surge and Ionic also had their own), but it was out and away the slimmest and lightest, making IT a great choice for anyone protrusive to get serious about their running.

Information technology was a thickened act to follow, but the Fitbit Shoot up 5 has even more to offer. Not only does information technology keep the GPS chip at (packed into a case that's 10% thinner), it also has an EDA (electrodermal activenes) stress monitor, as seen in the Fitbit Feel, plus an ECG (electrocardiogram) sensor for checking your heart health.

There's as wel a new bright color AMOLED screen in place of the Charge 4's monochrome expose, plus a smart new design that replaces the older watch's hard angles with smoother lines.

That doesn't necessarily mean that the Bill 5 is the better choice for everyone, though. Read on to find out all the key differences between the two fitness trackers, and choose the proper one for you.

Price and put out date

  • Fitbit Charge 5 more expensive
  • Fitbit Charge 4 oftentimes steeply discounted

The Fitbit Charge 4 launched in April 2020, priced at $149.95 / £129.99 / AU$229.95 (the synoptical as the Charge 3's launch cost). It can now be found much more tattily though, particularly during gross sales events like Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday.

The Fitbit Charge 5 was released in September 2021, priced at $179.95 / £169.99 / Gold$269.95.  we're not likely to see any significant Mary Leontyne Pric discounts for a while yet.

In dumpy, if you're happening a tight budget, the Charge 4 is the cheaper option, and that's unlikely to vary.

Design and display

Design

  • Charge 4 has plastic case; Charge 5 has chromium steel steel
  • Explosive charge 5 has much modern, streamlined look after
  • Additional bands available to buy one by one

Both the Fitbit Charge 4 and Charge 5 are slender devices, with a constrict rectangular type that sits efflorescenc with the band. However, that's where the similarities end.

The Charge 4 has a pliant case with an cuspated design and a dark colour scheme (black, dark blue, and trench purple). The standard variant has a silicone shoulder strap with a moldable buckle, and the special edition comes with an additional plain-woven nylon band with reflective duds worked into the bodily.

The Burden 5 has a unsullied sword case, and is 10% thinner than the Charge 4. Its lines are drum sander and softer (matching those of the Fitbit Versa 3, Sense, Inspire 2 and De luxe) and it's available in three colours: black, satellite white, and steel blue air. Every versions have a silicone Eternity Band, which uses a soft loop-the-loop and tang rather than a heavy buckle, which is more comfortable to wear while dormancy.

Extra silicone, fabric and leather bands for some watches are gettable to bargain separately, simply bear in mind that they use different fittings, so you can't use Charge 4 bands with a Charge 5, or vice versa.

Display

  • Consign 4 has monochrome display
  • Charge 5 has colour AMOLED

Unmatchable of our biggest complaints about the Fitbit Charge 4 is its display, which is perfectly serviceable, just doesn't really do the watch justice. IT's a monochrome OLED touchscreen, with a relatively low resolve that limits the amount of workout data that can be displayed at once, and makes checking app notifications untrustworthy as you can entirely see a small snipping of textual matter.

The Fitbit Charge 5's screen is roughly the same size, but is a full color AMOLED, with Saratoga chip graphics and animations. It looks very much like that of the Fitbit Luxe, and may so represent the same unit. IT's a huge acclivity, and one that brings the Charge serial publication in line with rival device from the likes of Xiaomi and Amazfit.

Features

Smartwatch features

  • Both watches display smartphone notifications
  • Some plunk fo Fitbit Pay
  • Charge 5 doesn't support Spotify playlists

Neither the Fitbit Charge 4 or the Charge 5 are amply-feathered smartwatches (for that, you'll want the Fitbit Sense or Versa 3), but they still put up a handful of useful features outside of fitness tracking.

For good example. both watches terminate display smartphone notifications, and both boast NFC for making contactless purchases finished Fitbit Pay (which could prove extremely handy for picking up a feeding bottle of water during an unexpectedly hot extend).

Both also have a 'smart wake' alarm, which makes the watch vibrate gently at the optimum point in your sleep cycle, so you wake feeling wise and without disturbing your partner.

If you're a Spotify Premium subscriber, you may be surprised to learn that while the Fitbit Charge 4 allows you to control your playlist from your wrist, this feature article has been dropped for the Flush 5.

Fitness tracking

  • Some have connected-dining table GPS
  • Charge 5 has ECG and EDA sensors
  • Charge 5 gives Eagerness Nock to Premium subscribers

Both the Fitbit Charge 4 and Charge 5 receive a in force suite of workout trailing modes, plus on-board GPS. That means you'll still beryllium capable to track your location and pace during outdoor workouts, even if you opt for the slimly older model.

The Electric charge 5 has lots Thomas More health and fitness tools to offer, though – including an EDA (electrodermal activity) sensor, American Samoa seen on the Fitbit Sense. This uses your skin's conductivity to assess physiological changes brought just about away stress. The Fitbit app then helps you sympathize the factors that impact your stress levels, and take steps to manage IT.

Another feature borrowed from the Sense is an ECG sensor and app, which provide you to check for signs of atrial fibrillation. This can be an early sign of heart disease, and while the Charge 5 isn't a medical tool, if it detects something amiss, you can give a written report using the Fitbit app that you can plowshare with your doctor.
